Privacy policy

What is collected, by whom, and what you can do about it.

Effective 23 August 2026

Who this covers

Brainbender Games is operated by Ben Brady, a sole trader in New Zealand. This policy covers brainbendergames.com, brainbender.games and the games published under them, including Crosssweeper.

Where an individual game publishes its own policy, that policy governs that game and this one describes the studio position. Where they conflict, the game's own policy wins for that game.

What this site collects

The Brainbender Games sites have no accounts, forms or login.

  • Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without fingerprinting. It records the page, referrer, country, and coarse device and browser type. It does not build a profile of you.
  • Google Analytics 4 measures visits, navigation and referrals. It uses cookies or similar identifiers and handles data as described in Google's privacy policy.
  • Cloudflare serves the site and processes standard request logs, including your IP address, for delivery, caching and abuse prevention.
  • Link tagging. Links from this site to the games carry a utm_source parameter so we can tell which games people move on to. It identifies the link that was clicked, not the person who clicked it.

What the games collect

Local storage

The games keep your streak, statistics, settings and in-progress puzzle in your browser's local storage. That data stays on your device. Clearing your browser data deletes it, and it cannot be recovered.

Advertising

The games are funded by advertising delivered by NitroPay and its partners. These partners may set cookies and similar identifiers to select ads, cap how often you see the same one, and measure performance. Depending on where you are, this can include personalised advertising based on inferred interests.

Where required, a consent prompt appears before non-essential advertising cookies are set, and you can change your answer at any time from the consent link in the relevant game. In the United States you may exercise applicable opt-out rights through the same control.

Analytics

The games use Google Analytics 4 to understand which puzzles are played, how often people return, and where they came from. It uses cookies or similar identifiers. IP addresses are handled by Google as described in Google's privacy policy.

Accounts

Some games offer an optional account so progress can follow you between devices. If you create one, we store the identifier you signed up with and your game progress. You can ask for it to be deleted at any time. Accounts are per-game today; if that ever changes, this policy will be updated before it does.

Children

Redactle Junior is made for younger readers. It is not directed at children under 13 for the purposes of the United States Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. No account is required to play it.

Advertising in Redactle Junior is configured as non-personalised where our ad partner supports that setting. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact hello [at] brainbendergames [dot] com and it will be deleted.

Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 you may ask what personal information is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, and complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, you additionally have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection under the UK GDPR and GDPR.

Most of what the games hold is in your own browser, so the fastest route is usually to clear site data. For anything else, email hello [at] brainbendergames [dot] com.

Retention

Local storage persists until you clear it. Analytics data is retained on the provider's standard schedule. Account data is kept while the account exists and deleted on request.

Changes

Material changes to this policy will be reflected in the effective date above. Continuing to use the games after a change means you accept the updated policy.
